    Chief Financial Officer, Mercy Corps

    Beth deHamel serves as chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Compensation and Executive Committees.

    Beth brings to CareOregon extensive experience in the banking sector, particularly in public finance. She has served in senior leadership positions at Goldman Sachs & Co., Morgan Stanley, and BT Securities Corporation and is currently chief financial officer of Mercy Corps. Beth is an active board member of nonprofit organizations dedicated to education and children.

    Woody English, M.D., M.M.M.

    Woody English serves on the Governance and Network & Quality committees.

    Woody is the past president of the Board of HouseCall Providers. He brings to the CareOregon Board a broad experience in healthcare delivery, including primary care internal medicine and specialty practices in infectious diseases, epidemiology, public health, hospital medicine, home care, palliative care, and hospice. Additionally, he has held several leadership positions during the thirty-three years he worked with Providence Health and Services here in Portland. In his retirement, he continues to engage in community-based projects to improve care provided for people with chronic progressive medical conditions.

    Joanne Fuller, M.S.W.
    Joanne Fuller serves as chair of the Network & Quality Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee.

    Joanne worked with Multnomah County for 24 years; during this time she has served as the Director of both the Department of Community Justice and the Department of County Human Services. Joanne is known as an innovator and creative leader who has worked in the fields of domestic violence, juvenile justice, mental health and anti-poverty.

    Vickie S. Gates

    Vickie Gates serves as chair of the Compensation Committee and as a member of the Executive, Finance, Governance, and Network & Quality Committees.

    Vickie has more than 30 years of management and policy experience in the public and non-profit sectors, focused on health policy, research, and delivery of health care and social services. Vickie held a number of positions in the Oregon Department of Health and Human Services, including administrator of the Oregon Health Plan. Most recently, she was executive director of Oregon Healthcare Quality Corporation. Vickie is now a consultant for Oregon and national organizations based in Greensboro, North Carolina

    Damien Hall serves as chair of the Audit & Compliance Committee and as a member of the Executive and Finance Committees.

    Damien has a background in urban planning and development. In addition to his land use practice, he regularly assists clients with real estate transactions, natural resources law, municipal law, and formation and organization of business entities. Damien is actively involved in development issues in Portland, serving on a number of boards and committees, such as the Portland Development Commission’s (PDC) Central City Budget Advisory Committee.

    Sue Hennessy serves on the Audit & Compliance and Network & Quality committees.

    Sue retired in 2014 concluding a 35 year career in health care leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente NW and Group Health Cooperative. Her experience spans health care delivery, health plan services, strategic planning, and health reform implementation. Sue’s volunteer activities have focused on women, children, and communities of color. She holds a special interest in mentoring emerging leaders. In 2013, Sue was honored as the Portland Business Journal’s Women of Influence: Large Business; Woman Executive of the Year.

    Eric C. Hunter serves as a member of all seven Committees.

    With more than 20 years of leadership experience in the health care field, Eric brings a deep knowledge of Medicaid policy, commercial plans and the integration of physical and behavioral health care.

    Eric served most recently as Chief Operating Officer for Boston Medical Center Healthnet Plan. Previous roles include CEO for ValueOptions Behavioral Health in both Texas and Illinois, and for Heartland Health Plan in Oklahoma. At Centene, he served as COO, Managed Health Services in Indiana; also as COO of Total Carolina Care in South Carolina.

    Chief Executive Officer, La Clinica

    Brenda Johnson serves as chair of the Governance Committee and as a member of the Executive and Network & Quality Committees.

    Brenda brings to CareOregon more than 15 years of nonprofit leadership experience in migrant and community health care and community development. Brenda is known as a collaborative leader who has worked in the field of child abuse prevention, public health, and health disparities. As CEO of La Clinica, she takes a leadership role in the provision of medical, dental and social services to the diverse and low-income populations in Southern Oregon. Brenda has served on the Board of Directors for several regional, state and local organizations focused on improving the health and well-being of people who live in poverty.

  • Nathalie Johnson, M.D.
    Nathalie Johnson, M.D.
    Surgical Associates

    Nathalie Johnson serves on the Community Relations and Network & Quality committees.

    Nathalie is a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer and endocrine disease. She is the recipient of numerous awards among physicians, and advocates for research and education on breast cancer. She holds hospital appointments at Portland-area hospitals and is a clinical professor of surgery atOregon Health & Science University. Nathalie belongs to local and national professional associations and has served on several nonprofit boards.

    President & CEO, Foundation for Excellence in Mental Health Care

    Gina Nikkel serves on the Governance and Network & Quality committees.

    Gina has worked extensively in mental health and addictions policy, leadership and management, health care financing and political advocacy. As a former Community Mental Health Therapist, Adolescent Program Director, Clinical Supervisor, and Crisis worker she brings experience in all aspects of community mental health. Gina's public service includes two terms as a Tillamook County Commissioner and Vice-President of the Association of Oregon Counties. Gina is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Oregon Health and Sciences University

    Director, Office of Neighborhood Involvement at the City of Portland

    Suk Rhee serves on the Community Relations and Audit & Compliance committees.

    Suk has a background in community organizing, civic engagement and health as the barometer of how well communities fare within society. Her work has focused on increasing the participation and influence of communities in the decisions that impact their lives in order to achieve more equitable outcomes for the entire community. Suk has served on the boards of many organizations seeking to transform philanthropy and improve the health of communities. 

  • Glenn Rodriguez, M.D.
    Glenn Rodriguez, M.D.

    Glenn Rodriguez serves as chair of CareOregon’s Board of Directors and as a member of the Compensation, Executive, and Community Relations Committees.

    In his leadership role at Providence, Glenn was the program director of the Providence Milwaukie Family Medicine Residency Program. A graduate of Stanford University and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, Glenn is board certified in Family Medicine with a focus on Geriatrics. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. Glenn also maintains an active family medicine practice at Providence Medical Group Southeast, a community-oriented health center that serves as a teaching clinic for the Providence Milwaukie residency program.

    Superintendent, Gladstone School District

    Bob Stewart serves as chair of the on the Community Relations Committee and as a member of the Executive and Audit & Compliance Committees.

    Bob is an experienced leader in education in Clackamas County, having served as superintendent of Gladstone schools since 1999 and in numerous management, curriculum, athletic, and community leadership positions within the school district since 1980.

    Erik Thorsen, MBA, CPA
    Chief Executive Officer, Columbia Memorial Hospital

    Erik serves on the Community Relations and Finance committees.

    Erik has been with Columbia Memorial Hospital for 15 years.  Prior to being named CEO in 2010, he was acting as the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, and has also served as the organization’s Chief Financial Officer. His extensive experience in the healthcare industry began as the Finance Director for a system of low-income healthcare clinics in Tacoma, WA. He moved into hospital administration in 1994 with Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco, WA. Prior to joining CMH, Erik was the Regional Director of Finance for PeaceHealth/St. John Medical Center in Longview, WA.

    Erik has a passion for the Northwest and is pleased to be raising his family in the community he grew up in.
