Nurse practitioner honored for caring for the underserved
White City—Nurse practitioner Susan Mix is the winner of a Spirit Award from the National Health Service Corps. The federal agency helps pay for medical education for health care professionals who provide care in underserved communities.
The National Health Service Corp paid $90,000 in student loans for Mix because she committed to work at the Community Health Center White City clinic.
As reported in the Medford Mail Tribune, Mix is committed to serving people who might otherwise not get care. The news story describes her work in Southern Oregon and East Africa.
"Our work can make a difference. One by one, we can serve people who can't find help elsewhere, people who have given up hope.”
