The Learning Commons

Transforming health care and improving health outcomes for Oregonians requires new methods for delivering and managing health care. The Learning Commons, is a place where community health providers and leaders come together to share ideas and innovations and improve the health of those they serve. With technology and space for retreats, meetings and training it is designed to be a collaborative and creative workspace.

Learning Opportunities Training Previews

Process Improvement Training

This workshop gives participants the understanding and tools necessary to conduct state-of-the-art clinical practice improvement projects. It uses quality improvement methods to manage and integrate non-clinical processes in a team setting.

The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI)

The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) is a self-discovery tool that helps you and your team identify motivations and behaviors when things are going well and when faced with conflict.

Problem Solving with A3 Thinking

A3 problem solving is a method for addressing specific organizational problems. It is logical, sequential and clearly defined. The A3 structure helps us ask questions such as, “What is the current condition?” and “Why is this problem occurring?” The questions help encourage focused thinking about a problem, rather than encouraging teams to jump to a quick fix.

Value Stream Mapping for Improvement

All work is a process, and Value Stream Mapping helps teams see what their process really looks like. A Value Stream Map, or VSM, begins with a request for a product or service and follows the process to its completion through the eyes of the customer. VSMs help teams look at the Current State of a process, create a new, improved Future State, and develop a plan for moving from Current to Future.

How to be an Effective Facilitator

How do you increase participation in a meeting while ensuring that information is communicated and shared in a clear and balanced way ? In this workshop, you’ll learn key aspects of the facilitator’s role in observing and assessing the group process, and be introduced to techniques to encourage participation within a group.
