Free English Practice
If you’d like to practice speaking English, meet new people, share your culture and have fun, plan to attend a TalkTime event at a Portland-area library. Free Health Event
Mark your calendar for the African-American Health Coalition’s 11th Annual Wellness Village. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Blazers Boys & Girls Club, located at 5250 NE MLK Jr. Blvd., Portland. The event promises to be a family-friendly day of fun, and a great opportunity to receive important health information and screening services for free. Free Citizenship Classes
Learn about the process of becoming a citizen. Prepare for your citizenship interview and study United States history and government for the examination. Classes are in English, and are taught by library volunteers. For more information, please call Jane Salisbury at (503) 988-5216.

To become a citizen, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have lived legally in the United States for at least 5 years
  • Be able to read, write and speak basic English
  • Know basic United States history and government
  • Be of good moral character.
