Kids want to have fun, but parents also want to know they are being safe and healthy.
Here are a few tips to help your child have a healthy, safe and fun summer:
My child is spending too much time on the Internet, watching TV or playing video games.
It’s great to set a good example by eating right and getting some exercise every day.
Look with your kids for physical activities they can do or you can do together. Check the parks department for ideas, or just encourage your child to play outside.
Set reasonable rules for “screen time.”
I worry about all that sun.
Have water or sports drinks available. Teach your children it’s important to drink before they feel thirsty.
Help your child put on water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.
Dress your child in lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat, especially when it’s hot.
What about unsafe situations?
Teach your child how to use 911 for emergencies.
Talk to your child about being safe on the Internet. Remind them to never give out photos or tell personal things about themselves or your family.
