Health care for Oregon’s children

MusclesThis spring, the Oregon Legislature passed Healthy Kids. If your children have CareOregon, they are already part of Healthy Kids. But you may know of other children—family or friends—who don’t have health care and will benefit from Healthy Kids.

Healthy Kids can help all Oregon children

Healthy Kids can provide every Oregon family free or low-cost health coverage for their children. There is no cost for children 18 years old and younger if their family earns up to double the Federal Poverty Level, or FPL. This year, the FPL is $10,830 for a single person plus $3,740 for each additional family member. That means a family of four can get full coverage for their children if they earn up to $44,100.

Starting January 2010, families who earn more can also get help:

  • Families earning between two and three times FPL ($44,100 to $66,150 for a family of four)—can get coverage for their children. Healthy Kids will pay 70 to 85 percent of the premium.
  • Families earning more than three times FPL— can buy coverage for their children, but must pay the entire monthly premium.
  • Families who qualify for help—can chose to apply the assistance they get toward the cost of theiremployer’s health care plan. (Employers’ plans must provide coverage equal to or better than Healthy Kids.)

FamilyWhat is covered?

The Healthy Kids Plan covers medical, dental and vision care; regular checkups; preventive care; prescription drugs; mental health and chemical dependency services; and medical equipment and supplies.
