What’s your asthma IQ?

Reminders are good. A reminder is especially good when it’s about a medical treatment plan. So here is a reminder of a few of the most important parts of an asthma treatment plan.

Inhaler

Understand your medicines

Most people have two types of medicine to treat asthma, and many have more than two. To stay healthy, it’s important to know when to take them and why.

  • Controllers take time to work. They are meant to be used every day. They help your lungs get stronger. You’ll have fewer symptoms over time.

  • Relievers are also called rescue medicines. They give quick relief when you are having symptoms.

  • Other medicines. Some people take a different medicine for asthma brought on by allergies. Others may have medicine for severe asthma attacks.

Understand your asthma action plan

It’s important to have a written asthma action plan you and your doctor have developed, and to understand it.

Talk with your doctor regularly about your asthma. Together, you can adjust your asthma action plan so it works better for you.
