Controllers take time to work. They are meant to be used every day. They help your lungs get stronger. You’ll have fewer symptoms over time.

Relievers are also called rescue medicines. They give quick relief when you are having symptoms.

Other medicines. Some people take a different medicine for asthma brought on by allergies. Others may have medicine for severe asthma attacks.
It’s important to have a written asthma action plan you and your doctor have developed, and to understand it.
