Health Education department focuses on smoking cessation

Promoting smoking cessation treatment is one of the most cost-effective health risk reduction interventions we can offer to our members. CareOregon's Health Education department is currently exploring ways that we can reach all our members with this message in ways that are meaningful and productive.

"We will be looking for opportunities to support the smoking cessation efforts currently being used by our providers; along with integrating the use of the '5 A’s' smoking cessation protocols into our Medical Management procedures,” according to Denise Johnson, Health Education coordinator, who is managing all smoking cessation referrals for CareOregon.

"We encourage our providers to ask all patients about their smoking status. CareOregon supports our providers’ efforts in clearly and strongly advising our members to quit tobacco," said Denise. "Look for updates on our smoking cessation program in the coming months."
