Pregnancy & Healthy Moms

Seeing your doctor when you are pregnant helps keep you and your growing baby healthy. Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal (before birth) care are three times more likely to be underweight at birth and five times more likely to die than babies born to mothers who do get care.

Doctors can spot and treat health problems early when they see pregnant women regularly. Early treatment can cure many problems and prevent others. Follow your doctor's schedule for prenatal appointments.

During your pregnancy, CareOregon's covered services will help you have a healthy baby:

  • Pregnancy visits with your doctor, nurse or OB/GYN specialist
  • Prenatal classes
  • Dental care
  • Programs to help you and family members quit smoking or find help for a drug or alcohol problem
  • Check-ups for you and your baby after your baby is born

If you are a pregnant CareOregon member and you have not received The Essential Beginnings Pregnancy Guide, call CareOregon Member Service on business days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the Portland metro calling area call 503-416-4100 or 1-800-224-4840 outside the Portland area. TTY/TDD users may call 1-877-416-4161. You can also send a request to materials@careoregon.org.

Call CareOregon Member Service if you need help choosing a primary care doctor, nurse midwife or OB/GYN specialist.
