CareOregon and OHSU are helping to sponsor a three-year obesity initiative. KOBI-TV, in partnership with KMVU-TV are broadcasting public service announcements to encourage increased activity and healthy nutrition throughout Southern Oregon.

Pedometer giveaway

CareOregon, KOBI and several Medford schools partnered to encourage sixth graders to get more exercise. CareOregon Education Coordinator Denise Johnson and Audrey Kuchen, anchorperson for KOBI, visited two schools to teach “instant recess” and distribute pedometers. The sixth grades from two Medford schools used the pedometers to see which group could achieve the highest activity levels. Children were also invited to visit the Pear Blossom Festival and Run, where kids of all ages received pedometers, while parents got free blood pressure screenings.
