CareOregon named “Mental Health Hero”

Jun 14, 2018, 07:00 AM

PORTLAND, Ore. — CareOregon has been named a “Mental Health Hero” by Trillium Family Services, which provides mental and behavioral health care for children and families.

To promote Mental Health Awareness Month in May, for the last four years Trillium Family Services has honored Keep Oregon Well Mental Health Heroes. The “Heroes” are individuals, nonprofits, community groups or business leaders who have helped pave the way for mental and behavioral health care in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

“It’s a special honor for CareOregon to be included among the Keep Oregon Well Mental Health Heroes this year,” said Eric C. Hunter, president and CEO of CareOregon. “We’re committed to improving and protecting the health of all Oregonians, including physical, oral and mental health. This recognition is a nice reminder that the work we’re doing is going in the right direction.”

Founded in 1994, CareOregon is a nonprofit providing health plan services, education and community support to partner health plans and approximately 275,000 members. Working closely with Oregon Health Plan and Medicare recipients, with a focus not just on health care, but on total health and well-being, CareOregon is making strides to end discrimination and reduce stigma for mental health, and integrate mental health and substance use disorder care with physical and oral health care.

“CareOregon’s commitment to building community resilience and funding out of the box prevention innovations is bringing real, lasting change to Oregonians,” said Logan Lynn, Keep Oregon Well co-founder and Trillium Group chief impact officer.

“Supporting the work with Keep Oregon Well to move emotional intelligence curriculum into schools; to transform traditional detention halls into wellness zones; to bring social movements centered around equity and inclusion to life in the lives of young people; all of these things are heroic, and all of that amazing, life-saving work I just listed doesn’t really even scratch the surface of CareOregon’s overall impact.

“We are so lucky to have visionaries like Eric Hunter and the entire CareOregon team making big, positive change in the lives of people across our state,” he said.
