Opinion: CareOregon is innovating to meet Oregon’s evolving health-care needs

Oregon’s Medicaid program, the Oregon Health Plan, has a long history serving as a springboard for innovation, with the intent of giving every Oregonian a fair shot at living a healthy and happy life. Twenty-five years ago, CareOregon was founded to achieve these objectives, connecting low-income Oregonians with a network of health providers and services.

As we celebrate a quarter century of serving those eligible for the Oregon Health Plan, we are in a unique position to reflect on the current state of “health care transformation” in Oregon and how we can partner to advance this work in alignment with our mission.

Today, one in four Oregonians are insured through the Oregon Health Plan. With more than 250,000 members in Portland’s metro region, the north coast and southern tip of the state, CareOregon has walked alongside our communities to help shape conversations about how to best serve our members.
