National Asian American and South Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is National Asian American and South Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and at CareOregon, we’re celebrating the strength and resiliency of this community.

Below is a list of some of the local AAPI partners we proudly support and/or partner with. If you are looking to support a cause or an organization in the AAPI community, or maybe you just want to learn more about these cultures, you can do so here.

APANO and APANO Communities United Fund - APANO unites Asians and Pacific Islanders to build power, develop leaders, and advance equity through organizing, advocacy, community development, and cultural work. https://www.apano.org/opportunities/  

Asian Health and Service Center (AHSC) - Asian Health and Service Center (AHSC) is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization that has served the Portland metro region since 1983. The mission of AHSC is to be the bridge between Asian and American culture and build a harmonious community. Consulate General of the Federated States of Micronesia (Weno, Piis, Fono Association of Oregon) - Fan itan North Nomweneas region in OR and WA. IRCO – Asian Family Center - Established in 1994, IRCO Pacific Islander and Asian Family Center (PIAFC) was the very first culturally and linguistically specific one stop community center focused on the diverse needs of Pacific Islanders and Asians. Guided by an advisory board and multilingual multicultural staff, PIAFC ensures that its services reflect our local Pacific Islander and Asian (PIA) cultures. Islamic Social Services of Oregon State (ISOS) - ISOS collaborates with a network of non-profit organizations and community service groups to assist those facing periods of challenge in gaining self reliance through financial assistance and access to public assistance targeted to their needs and goals. http://www.i-sos.org/

New Year in the Park - New Year in the Park’s mission is to foster greater understanding and appreciation among various Southeast Asian and greater Portland communities. This celebration is the most important and largest traditional Southeast Asian cultural festival. It provides the opportunity to offer blessings and honor elders, monks, family, friends and the community. Zomi Association of the U.S. - The mission of the Zomi Association USA is strengthen the Zomi immigrants and refugees through community development and advocacy for human rights. https://zomiusa.wordpress.com/about/

Zomi Catholic Community of Portland - The Zomi community in Portland is a predominantly Christian ethnic minority group from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India. Intense religious persecution in Myanmar has caused the resettlement of many Catholic Zomi to Portland as refugees. https://www.catholiccharitiesoregon.org/zomi/
